Hmmm car...
I could literally write an essay on the amount of stupid things I've done to date, but I am trying to get back on track. Going to the library at 7 last night was part of this plan. It backfired slightly when it took 4 hours because of the buses...Karen if you see this, the car idea is looking even better...
Truly missed the boat
Aussie people are just so nice. So helpful, so friendly. I got lost on the way to find a boat for a fieldtrip yesterday, so a man working at the boatyards said he would drive me to where the boat was usually docked. It was such a nice gesture. Unfortunately, he was completely wrong. So I missed the boat. But still. Nice, friendly Aussie people. But now I'm making sure I carry a map..

Sunburn heaven!
Had a healthy dose of realisation about how old I really am yesterday...a couple of younger boys staying at the hostel asked me to go to the beach with them. They were probably completely shocked when I said, actually, yeah, and off we went. Well. I demonstrated how completely uncool I am by going crazy when we saw an iguana/massive-lizard-type thing, jumping up to see it and taking loads of pictures. I then embarrassed myself further when we played some variations of catch...I was being thrown some deliberately easy catches, I'm well aware!! Well, I was always athletically challenged, anyone that ever knew me as a kid will tell you. To top things off, I developed a monster burning, despite wearing factor 50?? which just fuels my belief at this point that air conditioning is unreal and I should really just stay inside...it's better for all concerned XD

Day1: HOT!!!
Couldn't have prepared me for the heat and the stickiness, and of course apparently today was not hot at all. The taxi driver from the airport informed me in delighted tones that actually, it was the middle of the rainy season, and they're expecting non-stop rain for the next 4 months. 4 months??? I'm disgusted. I have seen no bugs yet, but I'm slightly terrified by the amount of signs around the hostel warning us to keep all food in the fridge...like, there's actually about 2 signs in each room. Jet lag is seriously killing now, and I end up nearly falling asleep in the common room, so I'm tucked up in bed by half 8 :) Oddly, it's only 6am Irish time, and Valentine's Day messages are beginning to trend online...wtf ppl?? Lived through that day already :P
Delay à la Catherine :P
Trip to Oz gets off to a slightly later start when my mother informs me that, according to my ticket, my flight is on Sunday, not Saturday as I previously thought and informed everyone of. Out of nowhere I have an extra 24 hours, and I may actually be organised and on time for once. Course, since I'm ready, the extra night has to be a night out...Some of my favourite people+a new club+great music=a savage night, a send-off that couldn't have been better if it had been planned :)

Truly, the best part about leaving the country is that I get to see people I haven't seen in ages. Yes, C&C, and HC girls, that's you. Without getting too sentimental, I'll just say that I love catching up, reminiscing, remembering and occasionally repeating the things we did in the past, making new memories. Such as breaking the heel of 80 euro shoes in the middle of Grafton St on their SECOND-EVER outing. I'm not loving that new memory, needless to say. My poor shoes!!

Pack up yer troubles...
2 weeks before I'm due to go to Oz, and just for fun I take out the suitcases. 4 string tops, 3 pairs of shorts, flip flops and a few skirts and I realise why I've never done this before...the case is at least part-way full and I haven't even half my stuff in it yet. There's a cute blue blanket with a dolphin that I love on the end of my bed and there is NO WAY I am going to be able to bring it with me. Or anything else that's not fundamental. Sorry, teddies.
